Game Of Thrones Season 8: 15 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It
7. Villain Jumping
One of season 8’s biggest problems is that it moves too quickly, and this results in the narrative moving from one villain to another at a horribly fast pace.
Game of Thrones has always been great with juggling villains in a given season, but season 8’s approach to it doesn’t stick. First, it focuses on Cersei in the premiere, then she’s set aside to focus solely on the White Walkers and the Night King. After their defeat, the focus shifts back to Cersei, who ultimately fails in the fight against Daenerys. Then Dany snaps and decimates the citizens of King’s Landing, and just like that becomes worse than Cersei, Joffrey, or Ramsay Bolton ever were. And then she’s killed soon thereafter. And this all happens in the space of six episodes.
The series has proven itself to be capable of handling multiple villains, but that’s because equal time was spent on them so that their defeat would have their own unique impacts. Imagine if throughout the show, it was focused on one villain for a few episodes, then they’re defeated and the next villain was introduced in the following episode, then they’re defeated and so on and so forth. Wouldn’t have been very good storytelling, now would it? That’s why season 8 fails in that department.
