Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 2)

Episode 8 €“ The Prince Of Winterfell

This is in reference to the title Theon Greyjoy seemingly gives himself, after conquering Winterfell in the previous episode. His sister, Yara, also addresses him as Prince of Winterfell upon her arrival, in the episode, although she also tells him he must leave Winterfell and return to the Iron Islands as they cannot hold it with so few men, so it is implied she is using the title sarcastically. During the episode the real prince of winterfell, Bran, and his brother Rickon, are revealed to still be alive (the bodies Theon has hanging from the main gate actually belong to the adopted children of a farmer), so the title may also have been referring to the fact that they were not actually dead. The phrase is also the title of a chapter in the novel "A Dance With Dragons"; the 37th chapter to be precise.
