Game Of Thrones: 10 Flashbacks That Must Be In Season 5
4. The Battle Of The Trident
How could the rebellion be ignored? Following the murder of the Starks, the rebellion was in full swing yet Aerys II had failed to acknowledge the danger it posed. That was until a defeat at Stoney Sept, which opened his eyes to the fact that the Targaryen dynasty was under threat. When the Baratheon forces joined with those of the Starks, Tullys and Arryns, they met with the reappeared Rhaegar Targaryen for a climatic battle at the Trident. With the Kingsguard dying at the Tower of Joy, the Targaryen Prince went up against his love rival Robert Baratheon in single combat amidst the battle around them. Robert was of course the winner, with his winning blow ultimately deciding the war in his favour. The outcome of the battle rocked the power base of Westeros for years to come, giving us the story we know and love today. Also, the image of the Rubies from Rhaegars armour washing downstream alongside his blood after the deathblow by Roberts war hammer, leading to the area being known as the Ruby Ford, is one that would be incredible to witness.
