Game Of Thrones: 10 Flashbacks That Must Be In Season 5

5. The Murder Of The Starks

The murder of the Starks was an event that truly sealed King Aerys II as the Mad King, while also helping to spark Robert€™s Rebellion. Following the kidnapping of Lyanna Stark by Rhaegar Targaryen, Lord Rickard Stark€™s eldest son Brandon rode to King€™s Landing seeking justice for the crime. The Mad King imprisoned him instead, ordering that Lord Rickard ride south to answer for his son€™s insolence. When he arrived, the Mad King had Lord Rickard taken prisoner for treason alongside his son. Rickard demanded a trial by combat and Aerys declared fire the champion of house Targaryen. He suspended Lord Rickard from the rafters above a fire, and as his father burned Brandon was brought into the throne room with a strangulation device around his neck. As he struggled to reach a nearby long sword, he would strangle himself and ultimately die, all while his father roasted alive in his armour above him. This is basically the event that kicked off the Rebellion and led to the story we know now, which makes it perfect for a flashback viewing. Add in the fact that it was actually filmed for season one but never used, and it makes it even more likely we€™ll be seeing it at some point. Some might argue that it€™s a bit too gruesome, but that€™s hardly stopped Game of Thrones before has it?
