5. Oberyn Martell

HBOOur lasting memory of Oberyn Martell also known as the Red Viper may be of him having his skull caved in by the brute that is Gregor Clegane but this shouldnt mean that we forget how incredibly skilled a warrior the Dornish prince was on the battlefield. Indeed, were it not for his desire to solicit a confession from the eldest Clegane, Oberyn would have won the fight as he had been using his Dornish spear and his agility to pick the Mountain apart to deliver a masterclass in combat. In the show Oberyns stunt performer Liang Yang had done an exceptional job of displaying how agile and illusive the prince of Dorn would be on the battlefield. The Mountain seemed to have absolutely no chance of hitting him in open combat as Oberyn was just too rapid and agile; able to dart in and inflict damage before leaping out of harms way. He made the Mountain look harmless for 85% of the fight and as we have already discussed Gregor Clegane is easily one of the most dangerous men in Game of Thrones himself. Though Oberyns death is arguably more memorable than his skill as a warrior, we shouldnt forget just how skilled he was in the art of killing the Red Viper even proved to be dangerous after his horrific demise. Oberyn is one of the few characters in the whole show who had a hedonistic love of life and this extended to a love of combat, which he excelled at.
