Game Of Thrones: 7 Things We Learned From "The Mountain And The Viper"

3. Sansa Is Finally Playing The Game

Considering that Lysa died soon after Petyr arrived at the Vale, the other nobles naturally suspect he€™s behind her fall. Meeting with the nobles, Petyr chalks his wife€™s death up to suicide, but they don€™t believe him. They already disliked him due to his foreign blood and business ventures with whorehouses, but they don€™t see how Lysa could have left behind her son, no matter how odd she was. The nobles call Sansa in, although they know her as his niece, to corroborate his claims. Hesitant at first, Sansa reveals the truth: she is Sansa Stark of House Winterfell. She explains how Petyr rescued her from the Lannisters and brought her to the Vale to protect her. She confirms how Lysa and Petyr were in love, but here€™s where the story turns fictitious. Lysa grew jealous after seeing Petyr kiss Sansa on the cheek (the real kiss was nothing that innocent). When Lysa threatened to throw Sansa out the moon door, Petyr tried to calm her down, but it was to no avail as Lysa jumped to her death. At this point, Sansa feigns emotion at the story, and while being comforted by the noblewoman, Sansa glances triumphantly at Petyr. Sansa€™s story convinces the nobles that Petyr is innocent. After the meeting, Petyr convinces the nobles to take more active participation in defying the Lannisters. With Robb Stark dead, he suggests that they back Robin as their new leader. With his mother dead, he needs to learn to become both a man and an effective ruler. The nobles agree that it€™s time for the robin to leave the nest. Later, Petyr visits Sansa in her room and asks why she lied for him. She admits that if he€™d been executed, she was worried what they might do to her. Soon after, Petyr arranges for Robin to leave the Eyrie and tour the surrounding castles. Robin comments on how his mother always told him that it wasn€™t safe outside the Eyrie. Petyr reminds him that everyone dies eventually, but for now, he should be more concerned with living his life. Hearing steps, he looks up and sees Sansa sporting black dyed hair and wearing a black dress with quite the neckline. A new Sansa is born! Until now, Sansa has largely been taking advantage of by others who wish to control her. Petyr has been one of the few people who€™s helped her, although remember that he has his own reasons for saving her. Nevertheless, lying to protect Petyr was also a way for Sansa to secure her own future. Not only is she making sure she stays safe, but now she has her own leverage against Petyr. Sansa is taking control of her destiny now, and she€™s making sure that Petyr will help her accomplish whatever she wants.
