It's still unknown if Jada Pinkett Smith's peerless crime boss Fish Mooney will be returning for Gotham's second season, but otherwise there will be enough familiar faces to keep things ticking over. Edward Nygma has had a slight recurring role as a young forensic scientist at the police department with a fondness for riddles (geddit), with an ongoing sub-plot focussing on his struggles in the romantic department. Expect to see some of those more...unusual affectations like dissecting bodies with permission to bloom into full super villainy in the next season, as all those clearly signposted hints lead him into embracing life as The Riddler. Again, hopefully dispelling memories of the time Jim Carrey played him with a ginger crew cut and green onesie covered in question marks. The end of this season saw Nygma put into some interesting situations that tested the limits of his quirks, and the second season could see them tipping over into full-blown supervillainy, his love of riddles guiding his crimes. Gordon's been dealing with problems from within the police force plenty, so why not add one more?
