Gotham Season 2: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

5. Jim Gordon: Criminal

It seems that Jim Gordon can never catch a break. It€™s painfully obvious that the man needs a moustache, but there has been nary a proud hair found above his top lip. This desire to remain clean shaven has now resulted in him being stripped of his badge. That€™s what I like to think, anyway. It probably has more to do with his assault of a fellow officer in the first episode. Although the assault was not overtly serious, as the officer in question is stated to be unhurt, Commissioner Loeb (named after acclaimed Batman writer Jeph Loeb and more slippery than a water-slide covered in dish-washing liquid) seems happy to abuse his power so that Gordon will have less. Despite the insistence of Captain Essen, who defends Gordon, Loeb, wound so tightly that he looks like he€™s going to burst in a shower of internal organs and corruption, forces Jim to hand over his badge and gun. Gordon steals the last word when he shakes Loeb€™s hand and coldly states, €˜I told you I€™d break you€ I will€™. Gordon, upon instruction by Bruce Wayne, comes to terms with the fact that maintaining his dignity is of lesser importance than the greater good. He decides to strike up a deal with Penguin; if Penguin can have Loeb come undone, then Gordon will do what he asks of him. Bring out the buckets of grey paint because Gotham isn't going to be as black and white as you expect.
