Hannibal: 6 Reasons It Should Come Back (And 4 Reasons It Shouldn't)

1. The Ending Was Brilliant And Definitive

While it may have come far too soon, there's no arguing that Hannibal's finale, The Wrath of the Lamb, was an absolute masterpiece. It's bloody, it's brilliant, and it's incredibly moving. Moreover, it's the single best episode of the entire show, maybe second only to the season two finale and that is a very big maybe.

I was written and played out incredibly well and, to be frank, should remain the show's curtain call due not only to how great it was, but also because of the implications of the ending.

After killing Francis Dolarhyde with the help of Lecter, Will realizes that he may have ventured past the point of no return in regards to his own sanity an also that this may very well be his last chance to take Hannibal down once and for all. With that, he tackles his pseudo-lover off a cliff, sending them both to a watery grave.

Not only was this a befitting end of their story, but a revival would beg the question as to just how in god's name they both survived. Not only would the fall easily be enough to kill them by itself, but both Hannibal and Will had already lost so much blood that they could barely stand. Sure, characters in this show have cheated death before, but it would take an unprecedented leap of logic to explain how not one, but both of them survived.

Retconning what would have been a perfect ending and having to reach pretty far to do it may very well turn off even the most dedicated of fans.

What do you think: should Hannibal return, or is it better left alone? Let us know down in the comments.
