Hannibal: 6 Reasons It Should Come Back (And 4 Reasons It Shouldn't)
5. The Silence Of The Lambs
The one holy grail that eluded Bryan Fuller from the very beginning of Hannibal's production, the one that quite possibly could have prevented the show from being cancelled in the first place, was the Silence of the Lambs character rights. He fought as hard as he could to get them, but MGM simply refused to budge on the matter. And while Fuller allegedly came close to finally striking a deal, it was simply not to be.
However, with a Hannibal revival potentially on the table, he might just have a chance to finally secure them after all. He's openly discussed adding some Silence of the Lambs elements to season four, should it become a reality, proving that he is still nothing if not ambitious. Moreover, a Bryan Fuller adaptation of Silence has the potential to be just as brilliant, if not more so, than what Hannibal has already done.
After all, in season three he provided not only an exceptional new take on Hannibal (the 1991 novel/2001 film), but also an utterly stellar retelling of Red Dragon. Therefore, a rehash of Hannibal Lecter's most famous story with Fuller's own unique flavor added to the mix has the potential to be an absolute barnstormer. You'd be hard pressed to find a Hannibal fan on the planet who wouldn't want to see that.
Now let's move on to the reasons why Hannibal returning to television might not be such a great idea.
