Hannibal Season 2: 10 Reasons You Should Be Watching
6. It Has One Of The Best Online Fan Communities
After the Show premiered, a small but devoted fan base sprung up and took to the internet, specifically sights like Tumblr and Twitter. These fans are referred to as "Fannibals", and they appreciate for the show for its dramatic qualities, but also cope with the disturbing nature of the show by good-naturedly poking fun at it. Fannibals are responsible for hundreds of memes, gifs, and fan art, but their greatest achievement was doing what the Firefly fans could never do: saving the show itself from Cancellation. On the day that NBC was due to make the decision on whether to cancel or renew Hannibal, fans bombarded the studios with mail. A common calling card amongst these letters was the phrase "eat the rude", referencing the titular character's eating habits. This isn't a threat, it is a strongly worded warning against alienating fan communities (Fox probably learned this lesson after they cancelled Firefly)
Self-evidently a man who writes for the Internet, Robert also writes films, plays, teleplays, and short stories when he's not working on a movie set somewhere. He lives somewhere behind the Hollywood sign.
