Harry Potter TV Show: 13 Changes To The Originals They Should Make

Remus Lupin deserves to live.

The announcement of a Harry Potter TV adaptation has, understandably, been met with a divided response. On the one hand, it does feel a bit too soon, but on the other hand, the books were always better suited to a long-form adaptation, and in the right hands, a TV adaptation of this story would be pretty incredible. As long as it's not another Rings of Power, then it'll be a tolerable retread at the very least.

If there's one sure way in which this show could justify its existence, it would be to improve upon the films' interpretation of the books. Yes, the films did a mostly fantastic job, but they got a fair few things wrong as well, so the TV show would benefit from making some changes. And not just in terms of following the books more closely, but also in moving away from them a bit at times.

After all, as great as the books are, they have their share of logic issues and not all of the lore works. If nothing else, this TV reboot is a great opportunity to fix some of these problems...

13. Add More Diversity

By far the thing that has aged the worst about both the books and the films is the lack of diversity in the characters, which hardly feels believable considering that the series is set in 1990s Britain. The few non-white characters there are remain largely in the background, while there are no openly LGBT characters at all.

Now, let it be said immediately: no-one wants to see a hyper-woke adaptation that's more interested in shoving political messages down your throat instead of actually, you know, telling a good story.

At the same time, the series should definitely make efforts to increase the diversity within the story; this would go a long way in making the series feel more with the times, and given the current climate regarding the franchise's creator, it'd be pretty helpful for the series too.
