House Of The Dragon Episode Six Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs

8. Up - The Dance of the Dragons

House of the Dragon
HBO

While the aerial sequence featuring Daemon and Laena riding their dragons Caraxes and Vhagar was brief, it was absolutely spectacular.

The CGI work that has brought the titanic, fire-breathing winged lizards of Westeros to life has been exquisite to date, effortlessly depicting the dragons' various shapes, sizes and mannerisms in breathtaking visual quality. This week's episode was no different, firstly providing a gorgeous look at Caraxes' sinewy red frame as he skims the sea waters of Pentos with Daemon astride.

More excitingly for die-hard fans of Martin's canon, the episode featured the first look at the legendary mottled green she-dragon Vhagar as Daemon gains altitude, ridden by Visenya Targaryen during Aegon's conquest and the largest living dragon in the world. Caraxes is no toddler, but even he pales in comparison next to the behemoth that is Vhagar as he soars through a maelstrom of dragon flame left in the latter's wake.

While the scene exceeded the already sky-high standards imposed by HBO's visual effects team, the scene also provided more excitement in the way of subtle foreshadowing. Vhagar is left riderless following the death of Laena, which means that the biggest dragon in existence is in need of a new mount. Without trying to provide anything too concrete in the way of spoilers, fans have already met the mystery character who takes to the skies on the legendary dragon's back; watch this space closely.
