How I Met Your Mother: 10 Worst Things Lily Ever Did
1. When She Left Marshall To Pursue Her Career In San Francisco
You all knew this was coming. If you ask any How I Met Your Mother fan what they believe is Lily’s worst moment, they’ll undoubtedly reference this one.
Lily and Marshall had one of the strongest relationships going in season 1. Having been together for nine years since college, they were ready to tie the knot. Throughout the first series, she was experiencing some anxiety about becoming married, which is completely reasonable as most do when taking this next stage in life.
But most people don’t just leave halfway on the other side of the country and dump their fiancé which is exactly what Lily did. After finding a three month art programme in California, she comes to the conclusion that Marshall has been holding her back from living her dreams. The same Marshall who supported her in all of her projects, loved her unconditionally and gave her everything she desired in life. Could she have not just found a similar opportunity in New York City – a place rife with incredible art schools?
Not only did this leave Marshall financially ruined, he was emotionally scarred as it took him months to get over a 9-year long relationship. Not even Ted, Barney or Robin could justify Lily's actions at this point. The saddest part is that if she had succeeded in her new lifestyle, she would have never have come back for the true love of her life.
