It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: 10 Most Offensive Episodes

1. Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth

Always Sunny In Philadelphia
FX

Season 6, Episode 9

Best Quote: Dennis: "There's countless examples of very classy actors doing black face. We got the great C. Thomas Howell in Soul Man. We got the Wayans Brothers in White Chicks. That was a very tasteful example of reverse blackface."

Okay, so this episode starts off reasonably harmless. Dee starts teaching in a school and takes the kids on a field trip to see Laurence Olivier's Othello, suggested by Mac and Dennis who are trying to settle whether 'blackface' is racist or not. Pretty tame for It's Always Sunny.

It's not until later on when we realise that the gang have put together a make shift version of Lethal Weapon 5 to show the kids, in which they play the cast, that things start to get ugly. The film features Mac and Dennis swapping the role of Riggs half way through, with Dennis playing him as a white man to begin with and then later on Mac playing Murtaugh in full blackface make up, complete with 'blackvoice' as they call it. The two use the film and audiences reaction to decide which option is more racist.

What ensues is a ten minute cringe fest which any person in their politically correct mind would have to turn away from at least once. Team this episode with the season 9 episode, The Gang makes Lethal Weapon 6, and it makes for a delicious recipe for shock and unease that has even the most devout It's Always Sunny fan asking "how on earth did they get away with that?!".
