Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill Review - 6 Ups & 3 Downs

3. Down - Too Much Time On Pop-Tarts

The humor here is staler than... well, an old pop-tart. The jokes feel outdated as Seinfeld goes through the history of the breakfast item and how it changed lives in the '60s. Proceeding to the Kellogg's headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan, doesn't help.

This doesn't feel new or groundbreaking. What works so well with the other bits is also the downfall here. The jokes aren't that good, and the bit keeps going. When the jokes don't work at the beginning, it's difficult to climb aboard midway through.

It's the reason why this special won't win over new converts. Jerry isn't reaching across to new territory. And to be frank, he probably couldn't care less about it either. He had the most popular sitcom ever. He's won. He doesn't have to prove anything to anybody.

And because of that, he'll continue with jokes that he's comfortable with. Pop-Tarts are on brand with the relatable humor, but it's not exciting. It would be disappointing to take time to go see a Seinfeld special in-person to be greeted with a long bit about a breakfast item that's been around for over half a century.
