Jessica Jones Season 2 Review: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To First Five Episodes
6. But Still Very, Very Dark
The show may have its levity, but it's not all sh*ts and giggles: as you might expect - and as Mike Colter teased last year - things do get very dark and heavy.
This is a superhero show that goes above and beyond being about crimefighting and instead focuses on the inner-turmoil of its 'hero', the things she's been through and has to do.
We're once again given a story where issues like sexual abuse and alcoholism are towards the forefront, along with all the violence and gore that we've come to expect from this world. It's dark, dangerous, and serious without being self-serious - it knows how to have these conversations and deal with the themes without being overbearing or too difficult to watch, instead striking the right balance.
It's a Jessica who still has to face her past every day, with the show digging deeper into her origins while still going back to what happened with Kilgrave as well, and it leads to a heavy, twisted and yet thoroughly engrossing tale.
