Legion: 10 Reasons It's The Best Superhero TV Show Of All Time
5. A Powerful, Competent Villain

As we learn late in season one, the main villain of Legion is Amahl Farouk (aka the Shadow King.) And if you've been disappointed by Marvel's on-screen treatment of their less-mainstream villains in the past, then prepare to be pleasantly surprised.
Farouk is portrayed as incredibly strong, having a very firm grip on David's proverbial throat, which is due in large part to their inherent connection. They say a hero is judged by his greatest enemy, but that works both ways. Farouk is powerful, but requires a host to survive and considering that David is possibly the most powerful mutant to ever live, it's safe to say he chose well.
Moreover, it's this connection Farouk has to David that makes him arguably the greatest villain on superhero television to date, even better than others who could be deemed exceptional. Whereas most villains are figuratively "in the heads" of their enemies, that saying is very literal when it comes to Farouk and he definitely makes use of that advantage.
He has kept David at his mercy for pretty much his entire life, taking form of his fictitious loved ones and his lifelong fears to practically mold the man in his own twisted image. Plus, whenever David begins to catch on, Farouk simply wipes his memory and continues the process.
Not to mention the fact that, as of season one, Farouk has yet to be defeated. He is not an easily thwarted bad guy. He is a master manipulator who is always one step ahead.
