1. Exploring Mental Illness
One of the most intriguing things about Legion is how it will tackle mental illness and how it ties into the struggles that mutants go through, something not really addressed in an on-screen superhero TV show/movie before.
This element is particularly intriguing as showrunner, Noah Hawley (Fargo), stated he chose Legion over the Hellfire Club TV series because he was interested in creating a show exploring a character with mental illness and building a show's style around it.
The show intends to tackle more down to earth aspects of mental illness as well as what is going on in David's mind in a more abstract way. For example, the trailers address the stigma of mental illness and the difficulties surrounding medication.
Hopefully, the series manages to portray mental illness in a well-researched and informative light without relying too heavily on the elaborate reality-bending sequences to highlight David's struggles.
