Lost: Top 15 Deaths

7. John Locke

In the final seconds of the season four finale, the show revealed its season-long mystery of who occupied the coffin that Jack Shephard had visited in the previous season finale to be none other than John Locke. During the fifth season, it's revealed that Ben Linus killed Locke after getting information he needed from him. However, the blow was lessened due to the fact that John Locke was miraculously alive and well on the island after his body was brought back by Jack on the Ajira flight. And then the rug was pulled out from under everyone. Season five closed out with many questions up in the air, though the reveal that John Locke was the Man in Black that Jacob had talked with in a flashback opened up the door for massive theorization. Sadly, the knowledge that Locke wasn't Locke meant that the character who had spent a lifetime dealing with one hurdle after another--and earned Terry O'Quinn an Emmy in the process--had died a horrible death, strangled by the weaselly Ben Linus and strung up in a crappy hotel room. Locke's death was a sad reminder of the life he had been forced to live before the island. And rewatching the series with the knowledge that Locke isn't coming back from what Ben Linus does to him only serves to pour more salt in the wound, even in spite the fact his series-long attempts to instill faith in Jack finally pay off after his death.
