Marvel's Daredevil: 10 Reasons It's The Best Comic Book Show Ever
3. The Direction And Cinematography Is Gorgeous
Given that Daredevil is supposed to take place in the same universe as Iron Man and Captain America, the show needed to look the part and therefore required a good budget to accomplish the task of feeling like it fit in.
Daredevil uses its budget extremely wisely in comparison to Agents Of SHIELD and presents a sumptuously dark visual style. The street-level nature of the story means that there are less special effects than in the usual Marvel efforts, and so the budget goes more towards the direction and cinematography.
The colour palette of the show is dominated by inky blacks, deep reds, moody ambers and lurid greens. Hell's Kitchen is shown to be grimy and lived-in, a city in decline and in need of a serious cash injection. The colours give this setting a distinct flavour, and it makes Hell's Kitchen appear almost as another character in the show.
The visual style evokes a sombre feeling in the viewer, with the anticipation that something terrible is always around the corner. But the directors also pick and choose their moments for beauty to seep through, such as the stark white art gallery in which we first find Wilson Fisk, or with the sublime light show that is created outside Matt Murdock's apartment window by a garish billboard.
