The origin of Jessica's strange super-powers has been a mystery teased since the beginning, with the first season only ever dropping hints about what happened. This includes references to IGH, the secret organisation that paid off Jessica's medical bills and gave Will Simpson the enhancing drugs that made him stronger and less stable. Patsy's got all the files that her mother dropped off, but whether she found anything big on her own, or she needs Jessica's help to make sense of the mystery, remains to be seen.
It's not clear whether IGH ensured Jessica got her powers in the first place, or if they took samples from her to conduct experiments with. But with scenes showing Jessica investigating her origins, and even a cut of her saving somebody from an exploding lab in the trailer, fans should expect some huge revelations in this season, and, knowing Marvel, some even bigger questions than before, to be answered in future seasons, or inevitable spin-offs, jumping off points for future series.
The implications, after all, of an organisation experimenting with super-powers, are too big to fit in just one show. For instance: are their experiments related to how Luke Cage got his powers?
