MCU: 10 Worst Netflix Characters
2. Diamondback - Luke Cage
Luke Cage season 1 had a pretty strong first half, mostly thanks to its talented core cast. On villain duties, you had future Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali who managed to imbue crime boss Cottonmouth with a lot of texture. Sadly, the character was killed off halfway through. And, in his place, we got another antagonist who was totally devoid of the subtlety that Ali had brought to his character.
Erik LaRay Harvey was presumably aiming for a high-quality performance as a psychotic character in the realm of Heath Ledger's Joker, but what he ended up with is much closer to Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face. He's just blandly crazy and nasty for the sake of it and he never feels like a three-dimensional person.
To be fair, you can't lay all the blame at Harvey's door. The writers have to be criticised for his cliched characterisation, too. They are so eager to enforce the idea that he's Luke's nemesis that they throw every arch-villain trope in the book at him. He's both Luke's best friend gone bad and his secret evil brother.
And let's not get started on his laughable costume.
