How I Met Your Mother: 7 Mistakes Made In Season 9
5. Too Much Filler
Carter Bays and Craig Thomas said they were worried that they may not have enough episodes to wrap up everything the way they wanted. If that were the case, then why was season nine loaded with more filler than any other season to date? Having to endure Marshall's cross-country drive from Minnesota to New York with Daphne was just painful, and sapped the group of a great dynamic. Showing Marshall's interactions with a random character shoe-horned into the series is nowhere near as interesting as seeing him interact with the rest of the gang, especially when it takes up thirteen episodes. Ted becoming a victim of Billy Zabka's "Zabkatage," Loretta and Robin's "scramble-off," Ted's wedding date, Ted's quest to get the locket (even bringing back irritating characters like Jeanette), and that's even before we get into some of the most ridiculous filler episodes of all time. "No Questions Asked" was one of the most contrived episodes ever, with ridiculous flashbacks strewn throughout. Upon viewing that episode, I felt the show had jumped the shark. But then I saw "Bedtime Stories," an even more contrived episode where every character spoke in rhymes, and that proved to be another jump the shark moment. But then we got Slapsgiving 3. Three jump-the-shark episodes and that was by the mid-point of the season. And not a single one contributed anything to the show's overarching story or the characters.
