This poor Crannogman's death is the very definition of the term 'overkill'.
Arriving at their destination, Jojen is near death from exhaustion and exposure, stabbed holey by a Wight, finished off by his loving sister and exploded by some magic incendiary grenade, courtesy of the Children.
The scene may be the most gloriously fantasy filled scene in Game Of Thrones up to that point and it is reward at the end of a slow arc. Still, it felt like a needless waste of all that CG, particularly as the show then just left Bran's story alone for an entire season.
We don't know what they're doing with Bran in Season 6 yet but we do know that they are going back to him. There will be considerable need for more dynamism than visions and fever dreams as he hangs about in a tree and Jojen could have been part of that.
