NBC's GRIMM - Fairytales Get A Modern Twist via a Homicide Detective!

Perhaps Grimm, from the co-creator of Angel and exec producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is the closest we will get to Bill Willingham's awesome comic Fables being adapted for the screen.

Of course you remember reading the Brothers Grimm Fairytales as a child and being scared out of your mind, you ended up believing that a troll was now living under your bed or that a witch wanted to eat you or that a dwarf was going to steal your baby brother, whilst all the time your parents told you it was all make believe. However it turns maybe that wasn€™t the whole truth. Well that is if you believe the premise for NBC€™s new show Grimm. Maybe fairytales aren€™t just there to terrify us or teach some kind of moral lesson (although what that may be I never actually understood, except you should really be able to recognise the difference between your Granny and a wolf in drag). Perhaps they are actually warnings (and not in the metaphorical sense) about real crimes. It seems we got it right as children, we should be afraid of the dark. Except in this story there€™s no white knight in shining armour coming to save the day, instead a Portland homicide detective is our unlikely hero. And the Brothers Grimm, well they were actually criminal profilers. The show will debut on Friday October 28, but you can catch it a week early by following the show on Twitter. Starting this coming Friday, followers will begin to receive a direct tweet providing access information to the preview. Here€™s the official plot from NBC which yes, does sound like it owes an awful lot to the Bill Willingham comic 'Fables'
"Grimm" is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, "Turn the Beat Around") discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms," charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his fiancé, Juliette Silverton, (Bitsie Tulloch, "Quarterlife"), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby, "Lincoln Heights"), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world. With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, "Prison Break"), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology, facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, The Grimm Brothers. Reggie Lee ("Persons Unknown") and Sasha Roiz ("Caprica") also star.
NBC will also be screening the show at 10 cities, starting Tuesday in Los Angeles. Co-created by David Greenwalt executive producer on Buffy and the co-creator (with Joss Whedon) of Angel, it looks as if Grimm will have a similar feel, in terms of its characters and tone (e.g. Monroe the loveable monster) as those shows. Also I can€™t help but notice a similarity to the CW show Supernatural (one of the best shows on TV in my opinion, if you don€™t already watch it, I suggest you get the box set and catch up before season 7 starts this September), with regular people fighting the supernatural, but here it€™s limited to fairytales. And by doing so does it leave the show with enough scope for more than a couple of seasons, how many fairytales are there? Check out the preview below. (Spoiler Alert €“ be warned it pretty much shows you all of the first episode) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh3rFsv_WSE Watch this if you love: Buffy, Angel, Supernatural and of course if you enjoy Fables as this looks to be the closest we are going to get to that comic being adapted for a while. Grimm premiers Friday 28th October 9/8c on NBC (US) with a Little Red Riding Hood themed first episode.
