Netflix: 10 Original Horror Series To Binge This Halloween
5. Santa Clarita Diet
Despite not being that scary, this series certainly serves up the gore and camp and inherent fun and hilarity that comes with Halloween, focusing on humans eating other humans in a dark comedy with an oddly mundane American setting.
In this series, a couple of married suburban realtors deal with the wife, Sheila's, sudden death and undeath, becoming a functionally immortal zombie who needs to eat human meat to survive. Despite the grimness of the premise, the series then goes on to become a comedy of errors as the faithful husband Joel, as well as their daughter Abby and neighbour's son Eric try to figure out how to balance their life and Sheila's hunger for human flesh.
The series is an enjoyable black comedy that presents some moral quandaries as Sheila and Joel start trying to target bad people to eat (in style of Hannibal Lecter eating the rude) and dealing with the changes - both negative and positive - to their lives. Though it was recently cancelled at 3 seasons, a surge in views may hopefully help it get in the very least, a proper ending and conclusion to the mystery of Sheila's condition.
