Netflix: 10 Original Horror Series To Binge This Halloween
2. Stranger Things
One of the most popular titles to come out of Netflix over the past few years, this nostalgic, 80s-set series pulls together and subverts many popular themes and tropes seen in films at the time; from strange sci-fi experiments happening near a small town to psychic children, and a group of kids running around having adventures and chasing mysteries Goonies-style, along with some bleaker elements of child disappearances and isolating horror without the comfort of an immediate line of communication more commonly seen in modern stories.
On top of all this, the 80s nostalgia is colourful and campy, with production design that really immerses the audience in the world, as well as well-developed, interesting child, teen, and adult characters who are both familiar yet much savvier than the archetypes they were based on.
The main storyline kicks off with the disappearance of one of a group of young friends and the discovery of a strange young girl with psychic powers, and the consequences of nearby government facility meddling with an otherworldly force. It's one of Netflix's best creations, with stakes getting higher with every episode, and deserves a watch if the craze hasn't already hit you already.
