Netflix's Hollywood Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
1. The Cast Is Exceptional
Hollywood isn't the perfect picture it hopes to be, but there is such an allure about it that you simply can't force yourself to look away from it (even the loud parts). And that allure unquestionably stems from the wonderful performers who make even the most outrageous developments seem plausible.
Where to even begin when talking about the level of talent involved here? They're just all so good.
Let's start with longtime Murphy collaborator Darren Criss, who is superb as hopeful director Raymond Ainsley. The same could be said about Spider-Man: Homecoming's Laura Harrier, who absolutely shines here in what could very well be a career-defining performance. Dylan McDermott walks the line between pimp boss and hopeful actor really well, portraying Ernie in a surprisingly endearing way, while Patti LuPone turns in an unforgettably fierce performance as the incomparable ignored-wife-turned-powerful-studio-head Avis Amberg. And then there's Jim Parsons who is just incredible in the role of real-life Henry Willson.
Hollywood may not be perfect, but the cast is simply divine, and that alone makes it worth the watch.
