Netflix's Love, Death & Robots: All 18 Episodes, Ranked Worst To Best
9. The Witness
After seeing a brutal murder, a woman flees from the killer through the streets of a surreal city.
The Witness has more nudity than any of the other episodes, though somehow seems far and away the most tasteful. Where Zima Blue’s story was the most beautiful, The Witness’ animation and direction is dramatically more artful than any of the others.
Director Alberto Mielgo was part of the art department on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse; and he brought that same aesthetic to the trancelike fever-dream cat and mouse chase. When the pursuit halts part the way through, the short turns into a sexy and sensual trip that’s evocative of a Gaspar Noé flick.
The story is a bit bland and the characters far from fleshed out, but never has anyone seen something is the same fashion as The Witness, and maybe never will again. The Witness is, for this authors money, the most well-directed of all the shorts; the camera feels like it's controlled by a master filmmaker.
