4. Ted Lasso

When Apple announced they were going to make a series based around Jason Sudeikis's football (soccer) coach parody, it's pretty safe to say nobody expected much.

How wrong we all were, though, as Apple delivered a very funny and good-natured series that really showed off the struggles and triumphs of a fictional team in the Premier League.

Obviously, being an overt comedy about the cultural differences between the US and UK will make the show appealing on both sides of the pond, but Ted Lasso's mantra as a series concentrated more on what brings us together than what divides us. The message that the lead character himself - expertly played and expanded upon by Jason Sudeikis - and the show had as a whole was something so refreshing to see.

The writing was well balanced with the tone of the lead character woven through the entire series. Each time Ted defeated anger and aggression with his compassion and kindness, you could feel the win - even as the fictional Richmond F.C. weren't doing so well.

Yes, Ted Lasso was predictable in places, and any fan of the real Premier League could see that this wasn't even a good representation of it in any shape or form. However, it was charming, funny, warm, and surprisingly tender at times. Anything made with this much clear commitment to its message and big heart deserves extra points. Bring on Season 2.
