Ranking Every Marvel Animated TV Series From Worst To Best

8. Wolverine And The X-Men

Despite Logan getting front billing in the title somewhat randomly, Wolverine and the X-Men is still a show about the X-Men, and while ol' Canucklehead may get preferential treatment when it comes to leading the merry band of mutants, his presence isn't at all jarring, especially when you consider the series' premise.

Set in a world where anti-mutant legislation pervades the United States, and where the X-Men disbanded after a tragic accident left both The Professor and Jean Grey unaccounted for, Wolverine and The X-Men immediately asserted itself as an altogether more darker take on the mutant license. We get to see a world where Logan has to get the band back together (so-to-speak) and mend some really tattered friendships, a key highlight of what was largely a character-driven series.

Much to the chagrin of fans everywhere, the show was (gasp!) cancelled after just one season - an unintended casualty of the Disney-Marvel takeover and the subsequent fallout surrounding Fox's control of the X-Men on the big-screen. Despite owning the tragic title of being something of a one season wonder, Wolverine and the X-Men still managed to cement itself among the top tier of Marvel's other animated series. Plus it had Steve Blum as Wolverine, which is always an added bonus, especially if you're a fan of Raven's X-Men Legends games.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
