Ranking Every Season Of American Horror Story From Worst To Best
3. Murder House
A world without American Horror Story seems like an odd place to live in, but it was once our reality. The first season of the FX series changed the TV landscape forever, and a well-written narrative driven by complex and multidimensional characters made the horror series necessary viewing. It was our first foray into the batsh*t world that Murphy had created, but once we were there, we didn't want to leave.
The Harmon family were our conduit into this crazy universe, and through them we learned what this horrifying world had in store. They were terrific protagonists, and Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott were glorious on-screen together.
The twist regarding Violet Harmon and Tate Langdon's story remains - to this day - one of the most shocking (and well-scripted) reveals in television history. All of the actors were superb, and Peters' performance as Tate remains his best on the show to date. Of course, Lange was the standout performer (then again, when is she not the standout performer?), with her portrayal of the no-nonsense nosy neighbour Constance Langdon - a role that would revitalise her career.
Murder House is pretty damn perfect, and it would be more than worthy of taking the top spot on this list, but some of the follow-up outings proved even better.
