Ranking Every Season Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia From Worst To Best
4. Season 3
It's at this point in Sunny seasons that we hit near perfection with each season. One weaker episode than another is enough to slide it down a spot, but it's in these seasons that we see the most classic episodes the show has to offer.
Season 3 is the longest season of Sunny, clocking in at 15 episodes. This longer run time is the reason it doesn't hop into the top three. With so many more episodes to offer, it was inevitable that it would feature a couple weaker ones to drag the classics down.
Those couple weaker ones come in the form of a two part episode near the end of the season. "The Gang Gets Whacked" is not bad, but it's just okay and somewhat forgettable. The gangsters aren't all that funny and it seems to drag come the second episode.
When it comes to classic episodes however, Season 3 certainly delivers. "The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby, "The Gang Gets Invincible" and "Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person" highlight the strong season. "The Gang Gets Held Hostage" features the best showing of the McPoyles in the show's run and showcases just how damn weird they are.
Season 3 is the first we see of the gang as we know them today. While they get into some weird situations and hijinx in seasons prior, things get kicked up a notch come Season 3 and onward. Dumpster babies, serial killers and dance competitions are but the tip of the iceberg. Classic episodes aside, Season 3 is important for the sheer fact that it sees things get turned up in wackiness with no signs of the gang pumping the brakes.
