Ranking Every Season Of The Walking Dead (So Far)

5. Season Three

The Walking Dead Season 3 Finale
AMC

Almost let down by Andrea and her inability to both kill the Governor and pick up things with her feet, Season Three is one of the most emotional and spectacular seasons to date. Daryl and Merle's reunion is both exciting and revealing for both of them, and the proper introduction of Michonne is satisfying, with her character being immediately well crafted. Add to the pot some major deaths - Lori, T-Dog and Merle - and what you have is a brilliant season of TV.

Rick's breakdown after the death of his wife is quite heavy but wonderfully acted, and some distressing interrogation scenes take place to cement this as the risky season willing to hurt its characters. The crowning achievement, however, has to be David Morrissey's powerful performance as the Governor, who does more than just fill the void of Shane's demise - he perfects the role of the villain.

It would rank even higher if it wasn't for Andrea's insufferable antics and its criminal under-use of T-Dog, Axel and Oscar, but the high points of the season keep it afloat nicely.
