Red Dwarf: Every Series Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Series 4
It's hard to find fault with 1991's series 4 as every episode is amongst the best that Red Dwarf had to offer, and the world of the Dwarf is built up in ways that put some more serious sci-fi shows to shame.
Simulants were introduced for the first time as an antithesis of androids like Kryten, while at the other end of the insane droid spectrum we saw something terrible happening to Winnie The Pooh. Another parallel universe was shown with the unlikeliest of heroes ("Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast") and the guys all met their perfect partners in a riff on Casablanca. We even watched causality going mad in this writer's favourite episode of the entire show.
Every episode would be a standout in any other show, but it's DNA that has some of the most memorable scenes in the series. From Kryten's double polaroid moment to Robo-Lister fighting a curry monster with the help of the only thing that can kill a vindaloo, and his subsequent meal.
Series 4 is almost as good as Red Dwarf gets, and it'd take something smegging great to top it.
