Riverdale Season 3 Premiere: 5 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Labor Day'

Downs...

3. The Unnecessary Exposition

Riverdale Veronica Season 3
The CW

In spite of the fact that Riverdale is accompanied with a 'previously on' segment, the writers have a habit of using dialogue to remind viewers of previous events. While there have been significant improvements in the standard of the show, this particular problem is still as rife as ever. As always, the writing department make a decent effort to hide the exposition, but it unfortunately still sticks out like a sore thumb. No amount of padding will make the re-delivery of this information natural, because people don't speak like this in real life.

It's also worth mentioning that, in this day and age, casual viewing is almost entirely a thing of the past, which means that the majority of the audience will have seen most of (if not every) episode of the show to date. Therefore, they don't need to keep being reminded of what happened before and, even if they did, isn't that's what the 'previously on' segment is in aid of?
