3. The Football Field Fakeout
This is another effective fakeout moment similar to the garage scene last week. Earlier in the episode, Rachael received a call from who she thought was Audrey but was actually the killer making it look like the call was coming from Audrey. Obviously that didn’t turn out well, so when Noah gets a text from Riley to come meet him on the football field, the audience is filled with a sinking feeling that the same thing is about to happen again.
He gets there and the field is completely empty. The music builds as Noah walks around by himself looking for Riley, and then the lights suddenly cut out. Noah’s about to die, isn’t he? And then just as the camera swoops in behind him, it’s actually Riley sneaking up and covering his eyes.
It’s probably not a good idea to do weird sneaky pranks like this after two people were just murdered and there’s a killer on the loose, but hey, it makes for a pretty solid little moment that plays on the audience’s expectations from earlier in the episode.
