Before watching the episode, another thing fans might have assumed that the Victorian setting would tone down would be the comic element of the series. Surely, moving the action to that notoriously stiff upper-lipped era would mean there wouldn't be any out-and-out comedy moments like the 'John's Stag' scene from The Sign of Three. Actually, a visit to Mycroft's club - which requires absolute silence - surprisingly results in another classic as John shows off his terrible sign language skills, calling the doorman ugly and miming the immortal line: "I am glad you liked my potato." While it is very funny, it's the sort of comedy that you would expect from Mr Bean or Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun rather than Sherlock, which earns it a place on this list.
