10. "What Made You Like This?"

When staking out to catch the Abominable Bride at work, Holmes and Watson get a rare bit of quiet time where John finally asks his friend something that he has peculiarly never thought to ask before: what made Sherlock the way he is? While he probes Sherlock (oh, come on, we're grown-ups here) about it, he doesn't get any more of an answer than "I made me." This is something of a WTF moment because this question has been built up to in the preceding three quarters of an hour - in Sherlock's repeated talks of one's past haunting the present - but then is never referenced again after this scene. It is completely fair enough that Moffat and Gatiss would not want to properly explain Sherlock's origins but, having teased the answer throughout the episode, it ends up with it feeling like an abandoned plot thread.
