Sherlock: 5 Questions We Hope Are Answered In Series Three
3. What Are You Hiding, Mary Morstan?
To quote Winston Churchill, this woman is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. When looking back at the quick deducing Sherlock does outside of the restaurant, we see a few words that made us all worry for the mental health of John. Specifically the term liar. Having just talked about Johns mustache, it could easily be something as trivial as that Mary lied to John. Having just lied to him for two years, perhaps Sherlock was particularly sensitive to the idea that lying to someone especially John isnt a good idea. Do we really think that though? No, of course not. This is Sherlock and Steven Moffat were talking about. Its not going to be something simple, and as the wheels turn in the heads of the Sherlock fans, its possible that liar could be as much a warning for her than for us. Specific things that fans have noticed about Mary is that she refused the wine offered to her, there were suspicious deductions that Sherlock made, and finallysomething that Amanda Abbington let slip. According to the Mirror and the whole idea coming from this tumblr post, Mary Morstan is a journalist. You can click the link to the tumblr post, which explains it all in more detail, but basically the Tumblr post points out that its possible that in the deducing we see points that she may work for the Guardian. I find this incredibly plausible, especially since the deduction happened so fast we could barely read everything, where as normally it allows us a few seconds to read what Sherlocks thinking. Maybe Gatiss was trying to hide a plot point in the quick deductions. It would be a smart way to hide something in plain sight. No pun intended. (It should be noted however that in a recent interview with Moffat and Abbington there was nothing about her being a journalist)
I'm currently attending my local college while trying to figure out who I am. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, really any BBC show. I've also been told I'm a bit of a nerd. Specifically, a theatre nerd.
