The Simpsons: 10 Throwaway Lines That Would Have Made Great Episodes

8. Nelson's Sister

We've seen quite a few Nelson episodes over the years, offering some alarming revelations about his upbringing and answering just why he feels the need to lash out at the world. We've met his inattentive, adulterous mother, and briefly met two versions of his absent father. But who knew he had a sister? In "Sleeping with the Enemy" Nelson stays with the Simpsons while Lisa worries she's getting fat. The two cross paths and Nelson tells her that he has a sister - "I think she's dead now" - who had the same problem. Wait, what? Again we don't really want to see an episode centering around the death of a family member, but then Nelson's complete nonchalance implies that he was probably okay with it, if she really is dead. Was she older or younger. Could she have provided Nelson with the love and respect he never receives from his parents. Nelson's back story is already tragic enough but it would have given the character a whole new kind of depth. Then again, she could still be alive...
