Before sacrificing himself, Opie had followed his father's footsteps in joining the club, fathered two boys, lost his first wife Donna, killed Agent June Stahl, married Lyla, shot Clay, and punched out a sheriff so that he could be arrested with the rest of SAMCRO.

Ryan Hurst had his breakout role as the defensive co-captain Gerry Bertier in Remember the Titans. He also had roles in military films like Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, and Rules of Engagement. Standing 6' 4", Hurst is a towering presence on screen.

After his character's death, he went on to series like Bates Motel and The Outsiders. With a look quite the opposite from his days with a military issued hair-cut, Hurst now can be seen as the intimidating whisperer, Beta, in The Walking Dead.
