South Park: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
15. Season 18 (2014)
We seem to be solidly in the era of South Park plot continuity, and Season 18 started the trend. Adding serial elements has had drastic implications for plot possibilities and shown that Parker and Stone intend upon keeping the show fresh. For that innovation and risk alone, Season 18 merits some credit.
Unfortunately, the overarching plot of the season - the overwhelming, all-encompassing nature of technology - isn't told clearly, and a number of the episodes are flat-out bad. This was the season of "Randy is Lorde," and that development, which occurred in the episode The Cissy and played a huge role in the hologram-centric, two-part finale, is classic South Park - it started as a response to an article in SPIN Magazine. It was a new high for Randy, too. Overall, he was the main engine behind Season 18, with his d*ck tricks in C**k Magic making that episode the season's finest.
But outside of Randy, Season 18 suffered from a lack of quality storylines and humor, and the epic season finale got a little bit lost in the weeds. It made some important points about the nature of social media and changing technology, but it was easy to tell that Parker and Stone had to really stretch to tie in every aspect of the season.
Best Episode: C**k Magic
Worst Episode: Freemium Isn't Free
