South Park: Ranking Every Season From Worst To Best
13. Season 17 (2013)
Any discussion of Season 17 must begin with the Game of Thrones trilogy, the most successful multi-part episode since Imaginationland. Tying together a critique of American consumerism with a depiction of the XBox 1-PS4 war and framing it in the boys' cosplaying worked perfectly, especially when the entire trilogy ended up being an advertisement for South Park: The Stick of Truth. So often the show gets overly ambitious with its epics, tries to do too much, and ends up with a mishmash of ideas that's neither funny nor poignant. This is one time when South Park got it right.
The other episodes of Season 17 mostly fail to match the level of this. The only one that does is World War Zimmerman, an excellent cross-bred parody that features Cartman, in one of his most extreme sociopathic moments in the show's history, actually shooting Token. Outside of World War Zimmerman, though, we find some absolute crap. Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers may be the single worst episode of the show ever (Parker and Stone admit that they hate it), and episodes like Informative Murder Porn and Taming Strange add little of value (plus it's super uncomfortable to see a pubescent Ike trying to get it in with a Yo Gabba Gabba character).
Best Episode: World War Zimmerman
Worst Episode: Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers
