Star Trek: 10 Best Ferengi Episodes
1. Deep Space Nine: The Magnificent Ferengi
As a general rule, Ferengi are not known for their bravery or abilities in combat. But when the moment calls for it, they stick up for themselves.
During the Dominion War, the empire from the Gamma Quadrant sought to put pressure on Zek by kidnapping Ishka. That's when Quark stepped in. Alongside his brother Rom and nephew Nog, they put together a group of Ferengi to save her. This included Leck, a rare Ferengi mercenary who cared more about combat than profit. Quark also bailed out his formerly successful cousin Gaila, who had fallen on hard times since a bad business deal with Quark.
The final member of the team was Brunt, a former Liquidator with the Ferengi Commerce Authority looking to curry favor with Zek. He was a long standing nemesis of Quark. As an aside, Brunt is one of several aliens played on Deep Space Nine by Jeffery Combs. He also played another key recurring character, the Vorta clone Weyoun. Combs has also played several aliens on both Enterprise and Voyager.
The episode was brilliant because it showed the Ferengi from a completely different angle, adding a new dimension to their species. Quark chose to head up this mission to prove that Ferengi could be brave and be warriors. He was successful to an extent.
This episode also stood out because it featured music legend Iggy Pop playing a Vorta.
