Star Trek: 10 Minor Villains Who Were Awesome

7. Annorax (Year of Hell)

Trelt

A two-part story that heralded a great minor villain with the nerdiest name of all. His heart is in the right place €“ if not his concept of time €“ as the Krenim Imperium tinker with temporal technicalities and send the Delta Quadrant into flux. Annorax gets a space on my list ahead of some others because he has a really, really cool ship that effectively spends eternity trying to correct history no matter the cost. Ultimately it's all for the love of a woman, which actually turns him from being a villain into being a misunderstood "hero" in some respects.

Annorax is only looking to correct an earlier mistake but to hell with anyone who gets in the way in the process because they might find themselves erased from the timestream. In the end it's all about what he wants and not about the good of the Imperium. In essence it's a retelling of the needs of the many outweighing (by some serious margin I might add) the needs of the few, or the one. Kurtwood Smith is no stranger to Star Trek, playing not only the UFP President in Star Trek VI but also Odo's predecessor in Deep Space Nine's fifth season episode Things Past. Annorax though might be his Star Trek crowning glory €“ a memorable villain with a great motive. The twist at the end though makes you wonder if it's all going to happen again though , and gives you the impression he could well be back...

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
