Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST

10. Nhan - USS Discovery

Commander Nhan might not be the most celebrated security chief, but she made up for it with her unwavering integrity and sheer focus. Driven by her Barzan sense of duty above all, she could be a little set in her ways. But we watched her grow as her rigid perspective was tested.

Her razor-sharp instinct was evident from the start, her misgivings about the compromised Airiam proving sadly right. When the painful order was given to put a stop to Airiam, Burnham couldn't bring herself to do it...it was Nhan who took matters into her own hands. But with typical Discovery light and shade, we're also shown the toll it took on her. In her own words:

My job is to preserve as many lives as possible, at any cost. But what you said at the service...it is hard to let go.

Centuries later, she'd be tested again when she returned to the Discovery to capture Booker. By this point, she'd been given the thankless task of fighting the Emerald Chain, a gruelling mission that no doubt hardened the already pragmatic woman.

Nhan's willingness to take the extreme option in direct opposition to Burnham's search for a peaceful solution caused sparks. But in the end, it helped her realise she needed to get more comfortable with the middle ground. Nhan might not have been perfect, but seeing her strive for balance made for a quietly satisfying journey.
