Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST
9. Pavel Chekov - USS Enterprise
It's fair to say that Chekov probably isn't the first security chief that comes to mind. More often than not, he's remembered for his earlier role as navigator. But of all the Enterprise crew, Chekov was the one who seemed to play musical chairs the most. By the time Star Trek: The Motion Picture hit the big screen, he was on the bridge of the beautifully refitted Enterprise as the chief of security.
While we have little onscreen context for how and why he shifted away from navigation and science, his transfer to security was thankfully explored further in novels. His offscreen foray into the art of investigation and the murky world of conspiracies made the change feel less jarring.
That said, his security stint remained short and sweet. But he must have done something right because by the very next movie he was the first officer of the Reliant. Perhaps it had something to do with saving the entire ship when he destroyed an asteroid on a collision course with just seconds to spare? All while Kirk and Decker tussled for dominance over his head.
Despite his limited run, we do not doubt that his broad experience across departments would have been immensely valuable in security. And seeing Chekov put his detective skills to good use in the vastly underrated Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country proves he's able to muck in with the best of them.
