Star Trek: EVERY Chief Of Security Ranked From WORST To BEST
5. La'An Noonien-Singh - USS Enterprise
From one warrior to another, La'An's grit makes her an intimidating opponent. But it's her increasing penchant for fighting that keeps her from the top of the list.
Her strength was well and truly tested as a child, when she became the only survivor of a harrowing ordeal with the Gorn. That trauma would change La'An forever, and she chose to join the fleet that rescued her. And that's not to mention growing up as a descendant of Khan Noonien Singh in a time when Augments were vilified. That pressure could have been enough to break her, but it became her motivation instead.
La'An's intense yet measured demeanour allowed her to pour all her focus and discipline into her career, rising rapidly through the ranks. As chief of security on the Enterprise, her previous experience with the Gorn proved absolutely vital to the crew's survival on more than one occasion.
Her stark, no-nonsense attitude meant La'An always got the job done with as little fuss as possible. Some might question whether her realistic outlook sometimes leans more towards cynicism. No one could blame her if that were the case...in her line of work, it's better to be safe than sorry.
As time went on, La'An started to change. She was always a capable combatant, but her aggression seemed closer to the surface. This was probably most noticeable that time she punched a dinosaur, or hunted Kirk down with a knife on a ghost ship, or spent her shore leave causing havoc with a gang.
But it's in Once La'An a Time that you really see the difference. She tells the fairytale inhabitants that she means them no harm, then attacks them for laughing at her about ten seconds later. We only hope that in finding her happy ending at the close of the episode, La'An is able to rediscover the balance between control and power that made her such a good security chief.
